PORTLAND MOVEMENT DIRECTORY
Portland Oregon is something of a spiritual home for us. It offers the balance of a thriving culturally rich city and awesome wild nature. An hour east leads you to the Cascade mountains and the Columbia River Gorge. An hour and a half west, and you're at the dramatic Oregon coast.
Here are a few of our favorite spots, with a map below to help you navigate:
EVOLUTION HEALTHCARE AND FITNESS
Evolution is a one of a kind facility. One side of the building offers a fully stocked workout space, a state of the art altitude room containing treadmills, rowing machines and a Climbstation. The other side is a comprehensive healthcare facility, with fully qualified chiropractic and rehab practitioners. An amazing spot.
We love the Wyeast crew's ethos. They're well connected around town, and they know the best spots. High performance abilities and super laid back attitudes come as a package. Hit them up for a group trail-run (every Thursday night), training sessions and plans, even a guided climb up a mountain.
PORTLAND ROCK GYM
One of the oldest climbing gyms in the US, and developing all the time. PRG offers well thought out bouldering rooms, walls, a gym, yoga spaces and an incredible vegan restaurant. With drop-in options they're a worthy visit.
Yoga Union is quite the institution in Portland, flying the flag for die-hard yogi's for over 15 years. They've recently set-up in a communal space devoted to holistic wellness. With healthy food at Fern Kitchen on one side and upstairs for rehab / preventative therapy upstairs in the form of naturopathic medicine, massage, healing and more. Yoga Union is a great spot for anyone interested in Yoga, at any stage of their practice.
Kure set up shop as a juice bar on SE Hawthorne in 2011. They've since evolved into purveyors of fine health food with 5 outlets in town. Hit them up for a juice, health-shots, or one of their amazing bowls.
TERRITORY RUN CO.
Okay, Territory are more of a brand than a destination, but they put a lot of energy into building and nurturing the local running community. Their signature Sunrise Runs are spreading across the US (once a month, listed on their Facebook page) and they're regularly involved in events and happenings. Hit up Brett or Jordan and we're sure they'll help you find a warm welcome.
THE ATHLETIC COMMUNITY
The Athletic started out making graphic socks aimed at the cyclist. Their store on NW 19th Ave now stocks their own apparel and accessories line alongside a stellar curated offering of magazines (weMove included), cycling clothing, carry goods and eyewear. They organize weekly group rides in the surrounding area.
This is something of a hidden gem in Portland. Situated along the upper ridge of the legendary Forest Park, the Skyline Tavern is a traditional rustic saloon that has won the hearts of local trail-runners and cyclists. Hit them up for good beers, simple food and authentic charm.
Loyly has 2 super relaxing and beautifully designed spaces in Portland. We go there for massages and their traditional Swedish sauna and steam room. They also serve up lovely kombucha and chaga tea.
Forest Park is situated in Northwest Portland, and boasts over 80 miles of beautiful trails. The whole forest is open to trail-running and hiking, and Leif Erikson drive allows for mountain-biking. Enough space to feel truly lost in, whilst sat on the city's doorstep.
THE MOUNTAIN SHOP
Opening it's doors in 1937, The Mountain Shop is a true Portland outdoor institution. Head there for any of you running / climbing / camping / biking / skiing / snowboarding needs.
If you skate, you'll know Burnside. Beyond amazing.
CoSuBe = Coffee - Surf - Beer. Our preferred stop for all good things surf and coffee related. They hold weekly happy hours overlooking their shaping bay, and they regularly organize group trips to the coast.
